Bad Veins played their fifth ever show at Union Hall Monday night in Brooklyn. They also played the Knitting Factory on Tuesday as part of the Gothamist Moveable Hype show. The newly minted duo is garnering some attention from the Cincinatti press and apparently getting offers to play more gigs around the Big Apple. (I’m not sure if I agree with the Postal Service comparison, but as you can see, a megaphone was present). I’ll admit, upon hearing the band’s name, (a Bad Brains homage I’m guessing), I was expecting something akin to hardcore. But they’re not a hardcore band, so I was glad about that.

I quite liked the music of Austin’s Brothers and Sisters, the songs were easy to listen to and reminded me a bit of the folkie Neil Young. I also could have sworn they played a cover of Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones during their set, but I could be mistaken. Lyrically, I thought some of the songs relied a little bit too much on repititive choruses, but hey not everybody can be… Neil Young. Look for Brothers and Sisters on tour with Trail of the Dead and Blood Brothers, coming soon to a city near you. Oh yeah, I thought their lead guitarist was pretty talented, even if he was stuck in the back.
