I remember hearing an interview with Craig Newmark last year and he was asked how he felt about eBay acquiring a 25% stake in his company, and he gave a sort of stock answer about how the two companies think alike and they have similar goals and objectives. He also said that eBay wasn’t in competition with Craigslist in the United States. It was a carefully worded answer, and though I immediately knew why Craig phrased his answer the way he did, it didn’t prompt a probing follow-up from Christopher Lydon. At the time of the interview, Kijiji.com was already established in foreign markets, but it hadn’t come to the US yet.
