It’s been a little while since I’ve rounded up my latest new releases, so without further ado, here’s what has come in lately:

Iron And Wine - Boy With A Coin EP (Sub Pop)
Patrick Watson - Close To Paradise (Secret City)
Tegan and Sara - The Con (Sire)
The Bosch - Hurry Up (Indepedent)
Beat Radio - The Great Big Sea (Moon or Mars)
Bishop Allen - The Broken String (Dead Oceans)
Bang Lime - Best Friends In Love (Last Gang)
James Blackshaw - The Cloud of Unknowing (Tomkins Square)
Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs (Touch and Go)

Tegan and Sara - The Con Bishop Allen - The Broken String Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs

Iron and Wine - Boy With A Coin Beat Radio - The Great Big Sea The Bosch - Hurry Up

James Blackshaw - The Cloud of Unknowing Bang Lime - Best Friends In Love Patrick Watson - Close To Paradise

Here are some my musings on these records:

I enjoyed the Beat Radio record quite a bit, it’s worth seeking out. The new Pinback album is also good, definitely worth giving a try. The pop-punk sensibilities of Bang Lime were not exactly to my tastes. In my opinion, the best cut of the Iron and Wine EP is “Boy With A Coin”, and that is already an album track (so unless you are a superfan, I’m not sure this one is worth getting). I wasn’t that impressed with The Bosch record, they have a little The Strokes/VU thing going on, but with a little less edge. Tegan and Sara have put yet another strong pop record with some great songs on it, but on the whole, I don’t think it is as fun to listen to as So Jealous. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still recommend it, but if you don’t own a copy of So Jealous yet, pick that up first. I haven’t listened to Patrick Watson, James Blackshaw or Bishop Allen yet, so no comment at this time.
