Lightning Dust at Pat’s Pub (August 29, 2007)

Went to local watering hole Pat’s Pub last night to check out hometown favorites Lightning Dust (featuring Amber Webber and Joshua Wells from Black Mountain) in what may have been their first performance as “Lightning Dust” in Vancouver. At least one of the tunes reminded me quite a bit of Portishead, (whom I like a lot), but musically I thought Lightning Dust were a little uninteresting (but not unpleasant). Their self titled debut record came out on Jagjaguar in June, Pitchfork kind of liked it.

Pete Quirk of The Cave Singers at Pat’s Pub (August 29, 2007)

Seattle’s The Cave Singers were the evening’s headliners and I really enjoyed their set. Lead singer Pete Quirk’s vocals reminded me a little bit of John Fogerty, but the tunes weren’t CCR at all. The Cave Singers (whose members were once in Pretty Girls Make Graves, Hint Hint, and Cobra High respectively) recently signed to Matador records and their debut LP drops on September 25, 2007. A scant two days after their record is released, The Cave Singers will be hitting the road with their northern friends Black Mountain in support of their new album.
