88 BoaDrum at East River State Park (08/08/08)

As you might have noticed I skipped out entirely on APW this weekend, but I did attend a couple of events in its stead. On Friday night, I headed on over to the Williamsburg waterfront to check out 88 BoaDrum and all in all, I’d say I had a pretty good time. Laid back vibe, not overcrowded, and the music was enjoyable (though not a religious experience or anything). As you can probably tell from the photos, 88 drummers surrounded Gang Gang Dance who played on an elevated platform in the middle. The show started off with individual drummers playing different parts intermittently but then eventually lead into syncopated drumming which was pretty cool to watch.

PS Note to those who may have paid scalpers, prior to the show, the event organizers were handing out free tickets to anyone who needed them.

PPS Was it just me, or did other people hear what sounded like the Star Wars theme at about the midpoint of the performance?
