Josh Rouse

Pop tunesmith Josh Rouse has two shows coming up at Joe’s Pub (tonight and tomorrow actually) which are hot on the heels of the release of his excellent new 2CD set, The Best of the Rykodisc Years (that’s right, I just called a greatest hits package “excellent”). Ever since I discovered Rouse on 2002’s Under The Cold Blue Stars, I’ve felt he had an uncanny knack for writing catchy pop songs, yet for one reason or another, mainstream stardom managed to elude him. If you’re not familiar with his work, disc 1 of this two disc collection, which compiles 19 of his most well known tunes, is a great way to be introduced. But what’s really the gem of this release is the second disc which contains the Bedroom Classics Vol. 1 EP along with several demos, outtakes, rarities, and unreleased songs. Usually this kind of stuff is just filler, but I genuinely enjoyed hearing these songs in their “new” and unfamiliar versions. After these shows at Joe’s Pub (which are both sold out), Josh will be embarking on a limited US tour.
