Andrew Bird at The Hiro Ballroom (10/07/08)
As you may or may not know there is a new Andrew Bird record right around the corner called Noble Beast and Mr. Bird just sent around a MySpace bulletin with some details on how to pre-order it, when it will be released and how many versions will be available.
Details, Details – ever more details… now get out your calendars as I am giving you fresh. new. album. info!
As we’ve mentioned, Noble Beast will be released January 20th in North America on Fat Possum Records and February 2nd in Europe via Bella Union / Cooperative. There will be a few different versions, and we will aim to keep all of the information available to you via our website.
Here’s a primer:
SO, let’s start with this news, you can NOW pre-order the Special Edition of Noble Beast: Now, this very moment, is the beginning of the US special edition pre-sale! North Americans, mosey on over to the Fat Possum website to order the Special Deluxe Edition. (Or whatever we are calling it)
Available only through this pre-sale via Fat Possum Records and at record stores on release date (unitl it’s gone!); this limited edition is a 2 CD set featuring both Noble Beast and a bonus CD, Useless Creatures, a collection of new instrumental works. In addition to the two discs, this version includes completely different artwork by Diana Sudyka, extra photos, a fold out poster, and a 24-page illustrated lyric book. Pre-Order begins today for North America, for more information visit www.fatpossum.com . US preorders will ship in mid-January.
In case you are curious, your other options will be:
Standard Edition: 14 tracks available on CD in North America on January 20th, in Europe on February 2nd.
Standard Edition (2 x LP): Double LP version of the record. This includes a fold out poster, double-gatefold packaging, and a drop card for a free digital download of the record (192kbps); also available January 20th in North America.
Carrion is Sweet: A track from Andrew’s Useless Creatures record (psst… the one mentioned above in the pre-order spiel above) is now streaming on his website. Check out “The Carrion Suite” here.

I heart Dianogah
Andrew recently played violin on four tracks on Dianogah’s recently released album qhnnnl. You might know Dianogah as that great Chicago rock band that’s been tearing it up for the past 14 years, Andrew’s backing band on the fantastic Daytrotter sessions that would up in the Lull video, and Bird poster-designer-extraordinaire Jay Ryan’s band.
I don’t know how you pronounce that album title, but the music sounds super cool and I highly recommend it!
From the Basement
Andrew will be featured soon on Nigel Godrich’s “From the Basement” TV program which captures artists performing in-studio sessions.
You can currently watch a preview clip of “Section 8 City” here.
Alright, I am off to a holiday gathering in the north country, enjoy the day.
More tour dates in the next newsletter, December 9!
More (of my not so great) Hiro Ballroom pictures and tour dates after the jump.
