Blind Pilot

I was listening to the All Songs Considered 2008 Year In Review Podcast the other day and amongst all of the tracks I heard on that show, one by the Portland, OR duo Blind Pilot really stood out for me. Though their debut record, 3 Rounds and a Sound, was released in July 2008 and received quite a few positive notices at the time, as it happens, they ended up being a year end musical discovery for me. As penance for having come so late to the party, from this day forward, I’m going to make it my mission to unite the blogosphere behind this band, and if this post is any indication, I think things are starting to come together quite nicely. Actually, I just cruised over their MySpace page and listened to the 5 tracks they’ve got streaming there and was really impressed by the lot of them (what can I say, I’m a sucker for catchy folk rock riffs and smart lyrics). From their MySpace page, I was also pretty excited to learn that they are just about to kick off a massive tour which will bring them to the Mercury Lounge on March 31, 2009 right after they come back from the big push at SXSW. Tickets for the Mercury show go on sale Wednesday, January 21 at noon, it’s definitely a show I don’t want to miss.
