Crooked Fingers
Unless you’re a dedicated fan, you may not have known that Crooked Fingers released a new record in October of last year called Forfeit/Fortune. It flew under the radar of most folks (I received nary a press release) because Eric Bachmann (the main man behind the band) split with his longtime label Merge and went the self release route with his latest LP. The album is a bit of a departure from previous CF records (it opens with some pretty big horns) and was luke warmly reviewed by a few publications. (It’s been ages since I’ve heard the record myself, but I remember thinking it was decent, but not spectacular.) Anyway, having said all of that, if you’d like the chance to judge the new tunes for yourself and hear some old ones as well, you can catch Crooked Fingers on tour with Forfeit/Fortune collaborator Neko Case, starting in April 2009. They’ll be playing two shows in NYC, one supporting Neko at the Nokia Theatre on April 13 (buy tickets) and a second headlining show at The Bell House on April 14 with Wye Oak and Brooklyn’s own Takka Takka (buy tickets).
