Nada Surf played a one off show over at The Bell House on Wednesday, April 15 (ostensibly a vinyl reissue release party, but I’ll say it was a makeup show for their aborted opening night performance) and though blogger friends RySpace and SarahSpy were both there, this is the best recap I could find*:

Nada Surf at The Bell House was ridiculous fun. They played every song I wanted to hear and due to stellar drinking/non stop conversation with Sean, we didn’t have to stand thru any of the opening bands though I do slightly regret not seeing Holly Miranda. Not that many tall people so I had a good view of the stage and the sounds is very good for a reasonable small venue. Come to think of it Union Hall, which is owned by the same people, has excellent sound for an even smaller venue. I think I had one beer too many and didn’t take the G train for some reason I waited an extra 10 minutes with some thug-ish type dudes who kept trying to talk to me. I don’t suggest racing up the labyrinth of stairs and escalators at the Smith-9th St station but all in all a good evening and an excellent show and in bed by 2 am. Can’t beat that. * I would have gone myself but I was at Flight of The Conchords that night.

Nada Surf doesn’t have much scheduled in the near future, but lead singer Matthew Caws will be performing at the Highline Ballroom on May 30 with Todd Barry and Eugene Mirman and a host of other literary types for an event being put on by McSweeney’s, Smith Mag, and The Rumpus.

  1. Thanks for linking to our event. We’re about to announce, probably Wednesday, that Amanda Palmer will also be playing with Matthew Caws Saturday at The Highline. Let me know if you’d like any more information.

    Best,

    Stephen Elliott
