Here’s a few quick thoughts on this year’s nominations:

  • How was Taylor Swift not nominated for Best New Artist? Taylor Swift was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award in the category of “Best New Artist”, but lost to Amy Winehouse. – via Drake
  • Why is this live album by Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton in competition for anything this year?
  • Sure it wasn’t a great album, but didn’t No Line On The Horizon deserve to be nominated for “Album of the Year”?
  • For that matter, shouldn’t Working On A Dream have been nominated for “Best Rock Album” ?
  • Last but not least, shouldn’t Oracular Spectacular have received a nomination for “Best Alternative Album”?
  • Given that they are on a major label, it’s kind of surprising that the Decemberists did not receive even one nod this year.
  • Shawn Colvin put out a record in the past year, who knew?

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

  1. Taylor Swift isn’t a new artist… she had a big single in early 2008 with the song “Our Song” off her first album.

  2. Lady Ga Ga? Beyonce??? Puh-leez!~!!!!
Is that really music? Who makes these choices?
If anyone should get a grammy it should be the people that produced these no-talent bimbos!

  3. This may be the most interesting show yet? I agree that Taylor Swift should not have been nominated as a “new artist”. I truly think that she is a talented song writer, great role model for the young girls who idolize her, But still remains vocally challenged when she has to sing live. Yet, again; maybe that is why she is so popular…she is not perfect and that is something we all can relate to.
