Solomon Burke – Don’t Give Up On Me
Today the world of soul music lost a great one:
Solomon Burke, the larger-than-life “King of Rock and Soul” who was revered as one of music’s greatest vocalists but never reached the level of fame of those he influenced, died early Sunday at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. He was 70. [Google/AP]
I really regret not seeing him play live, maybe now I’ll finally read my copy of Peter Guralnick‘s Sweet Soul Music though. Also, if you haven’t heard it before, I can’t recommend enough Burke’s 2002 Grammy winning LP Don’t Give Up On Me, the whole thing is a gem.
