New Comedy Calendar and A Comedy Update

NYC Comedy Calendar
Comedy CalendarHey, you may have noticed that I added a new “NYC Comedy Calendar” on the right hand side of the page (way down underneath the upcoming events calendar). It’s a google calendar so feel free to link to it or embed it if you like.

Now that I have your attention, I thought I would mention a few other recent comedy show announcements that have come across my inbox.

Sarah Silverman is doing some touring starting next month, she hasn’t announced an NYC show yet, but I kind of expect something to be announced soon.

Sarah Silverman Tour Dates
03/25/11 The Fillmore Detroit, MI
03/26/11 The Chicago Theatre Chicago, IL
04/07/11 Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Portland, OR
04/09/11 MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa Stateline, NV

Chelsea HandlerChelsea Handler
She’s not really my cup of tea, but last time she was here Chelsea Handler sold out like five shows at Radio City, so I figured I’d mention her new tour. In support of her new book, Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me (May 10, 2011), Chelsea and friends will be stopping by NYC for one night (but two shows) at the comparatively tiny Beacon Theatre on May 21, 2011. Tickets for both shows are still available, but probably not for long.

Larry King
After a half century long career in radio and television, noted raconteur and multiple divorcee, Larry King is turning to hand comedy. Like Ms. Silverman, Mr. King also hasn’t booked an NYC date as of yet, but you can catch him at the not too far Westbury Theatre in Westbury, NY if you’re curious.

Larry King Tour Dates
04/14/11 Warner Theatre Torrington, CT
04/16/11 NYCB Theatre at Westbury, Westbury, NY
04/15/11 F. M. Kirby Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA
05/13/11 Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, Baltimore, MD
05/14/11 Music Box at The Borgata, Atlantic City, NJ
06/10/11 Silver Legacy Casino, Reno, NV

At the opposite end of the comedy spectrum (but really what wouldn’t be opposite Larry King), the folks at the Gramercy Theatre are putting on a few interesting comedy shows in the near future, many of which were just announced. (I was going to say a sentence about each one, but I figured a list was probably easier for both of us.)

Comedy On Broadway
Sticking with the theatre theme, a few faces normally known for comedy are currently starring or soon to be making their debuts on the Great White Way.

  • Jim Gaffigan is part of an all star cast (Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Chris Noth and Brian Cox) in the revival of That Championship Season on Broadway. The show is currently in previews at The Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre and will officially open on March 6 for a limited engagement through May 29. Use code MHBBX79 for discounts on select performances.
  • Chris Rock is set to make his Broadway debut alongside Annabella Sciorra and Bobby Cannavale in the Stephen Adly Guirgis play The Motherf**ker with the Hat. Previews for that show begin on March 15 in advance of an April 11 opening at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Use code TCBBX109 for discounts on select performances.
  • Comedic actor Ben Stiller is teaming up with dramatic actors Jennifer Jason Leigh and Edie Falco for a revival of John Guare‘s The House of Blue Leaves. Previews begin on April 4 in advance of an April 25 opening. Use code HBBBX205 for discounts on select performances.
  • The always zany Robin Williams is set to make his Broadway acting debut in Rajiv Joseph’s Pulitzer Prize nominated play, Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. The show which played to critical acclaim in Los Angeles in 2010 at the Kirk Douglas Theater also starred Williams. Previews begin on March 11 in advance of a March 31 opening at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Use code 2BENBOX for discounts on select performances.
  • Former MySpace celebrity Dane Cook will be bringing his bro friendly sensibilities to the role of Carter in Neil LaBute‘s Fat Pig. This is also Neil LaBute’s first Broadway play, but Fat Pig was staged Off Broadway with Jeremy Piven and Tom and Keri Russell as Jeannie. Previews begin on April 12 in advance of an April 26 opening at The Belasco Theatre. (No discount codes yet.)
  • In a nod to a show that is nearing the end of a successful run, SNL alum Colin Quinn is currently starring on Broadway in Long Story Short. The Jerry Seinfeld directed show made the leap from Off Broadway to the Helen Hayes Theatre last year and after several extensions is set to close on March 5. If you absolutely can’t make it to the theatre before the end of the run, you can watch it on HBO in April. Use code CQBBX101 for discounts on select performances.
  • In a blatant ploy for a Tony, comedian Kathy Griffin is bringing her act to The Belasco Theatre on Broadway for a handful of performances in March. Tickets for all 8 performances of Kathy Griffin Wants A Tony (March 11-19) are on sale now.
  • Last but not least, The Book or Mormon a new musical comedy by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had its first official preview last night (February 24) at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. The show is set to officially open on March 24. Use code BMBBX75 for discounts on select performances.

Louis CK On Broadway
Well, he’s not on Broadway in the same sense as everyone above, but Louis CK is currently in the midst on a 9 show run at Caroline’s on Broadway. His final show is on Sunday, Febraury 27 (late night Saturday), some tickets may still be available on
