Win Kristen Schaal’s “Live at The Fillmore” on DVD

Kristen Schaal: Live At The Fillmore Extended And Uncensored DVD
Kristen Schaal

Actress, comedian and much missed fixture of the New York comedy scene, Kristen Schaal, had her very first one hour special premiere on Comedy Central last week. The extended and uncensored version is now also available on DVD.

Kristen Schaal unleashes her unique point of view and unconventional delivery upon San Francisco in the world premiere of her first original one-hour stand-up special, Kristen Schaal: Live at the Fillmore, debuting on Comedy Central on Monday, April 1 at midnight ET/PT. One of Rolling Stone’s “50 Funniest People Now,” Schaal is not afraid to go blue in front of a live audience at the historic San Francisco venue. She will talk about taints. She will perform her magician’s assistant audition and she will share personal insights and stories, all adding up to a hilarious hour of comedy.

While she told her longtime collaborator Kurt Braunholer that it “went badly,” I think most folks here will probably still get a kick out of it. If you’d like a chance at winning your very own copy of Kristen Schaal: Live At The Fillmore on DVD, fill out the contest entry form after the jump. Contest ends on Friday, April 15 at midnight ET. One entry per person, US residents only.

Win A Copy of Eugene Mirman’s New Comedy Central Special

Eugene Mirman: An Evening of Comedy in a Fake, Underground Laboratory
Eugene Mirman
Buy It | Win It

Ah, Eugene…

Popularly known as the voice of “Gene Belcher” on the animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers,” Eugene was named America’s #1 Noticer by Standup Magazine four years in a row (not true he made up that magazine). In his first one-hour Comedy Central special, Mirman tells stories, holds up pieces of paper, and gets people in the audience to pee on each other with a simple glance (this is the second and last lie). He doesn’t care what it says here and is wiggle wiggle poddle wee wee lollipop. “Your mind g-spot will love Eugene’s hour special!” Ronald Reagan, right before he died. [Amazon.com]

As you might have guessed by reading the above paragraph, Eugene Mirman has a new 1 hour comedy special, which came out this week on CD & DVD via Comedy Central Records. If you’d like to own your very own copy of Eugene Mirman: An Evening of Comedy in a Fake, Underground Laboratory, you could always go out and buy one, or possibly ask Eugene to give you one if you see him on 7th Ave, or you could head over to www.bumpershine.com/eugenemirman and try your luck at winning one. No purchase necessary. Contest ends on Feb 14 at 11:59 59 PM ET, 1 entry per person.

Win Tickets To See Stephen Tobolowsky at 92Y Tribeca

Stephen Tobolowsky Presents The Dangerous Animals Club (Feb 16, 2013)
Stephen Tobolowsky

As some of you may recall, last year, at about this time, famed character actor Stephen Tobolowsky brought a live version The Tobolowsky Files to The Bell House. Since then, a couple of things have happened, Stephen’s podcast was picked up by PRI and is now and nationally syndicated public radio show, and he published a well received book of stories called The Dangerous Animals Club. As some of you may also recall, The Dangerous Animals Club is based on stories heard on The Tobolowsky Files, which spun out of the film, Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party. Now that that long introduction is out of the way, I’m pleased to announce that (thanks to my good efforts) Stephen is coming back to NYC on Feb 16 to present an evening of storytelling from The Dangerous Animals Club as well an introduction to a screening of one his most well known films, Harold Ramis’ classic Groundhog Day.

If you’d like to enter win a pair of tickets to see Stephen’s storytelling show and the Groundhog Day screening at the 92Y Tribeca on Saturday, Feb 16, go to www.bumpershine.com/tobo and fill out the contest entry form. Contest ends Feb 1, at 11:59 PM ET, US residents only, one entry per email address, one bonus entry awarded every time a friend enters through a shared link.

Win Tickets to Sway Machinery at The Bell House

House of Friendly GhostsBrooklyn-based music collective Sway Machinery are playing a record release show on Saturday, March 6 at The Bell House for their new album The House of Friendly Ghosts, Volume 1 which comes out March 8 on JDub Records. This new record documents Sway Machinery’s journey to one of the most remote music festivals in the world, the Festival au Desert, in Timbuktu, Mali. The CD itself comes in a unique hardcover 80-page booklet, featuring lyrics, photos from Mali and essays on the project. Famous local artist and music aficionado, Jonathan Blum (art pictured below) is a long time fan of the band, so I asked him to say a few words about why you should come to the show on Saturday night.

OK, In my personal opinion, this Sway Machinery concert will rock so good. That’s why I am ordering you all to come. They are just getting better and better. The last three times I’ve seen them have been some of my favorite concerts ever. They are playing with Khaira Arby, the amazing singer from Mali. OK, how about this; if the concert doesn’t blow your mind, I will pay you back, so there’s nothing to lose*.

xx Jonathan Blum

In addition to it being a record release show and the first show of their new tour, The Bell House gig is also a benefit for the Malian NGO ASSADEC. ASSADEC is a consortium of 300 women’s groups from small desert villages which provides AIDS information and instruction in the nomadic context. Having said that, if winning tickets to a benefit doesn’t make you feel guilty, I’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader. Fill out the contest entry form after the jump, winner will be notified tonight at around 6PM or so, locals only please.

View the video for “Gawad Teriamou” and more Sway Machinery tour dates after the jump.

* This was originally written as a letter intended for his friends, so as much I’m sure the show will be awesome, I don’t think you can hold Jonathan to this promise. However, if you’d like to buy some art or meet the man in person, Jonathan’s studio is on 285 Fifth Ave (1st/2nd) in Park Slope.

2010 babyGap and GapKids Casting Call Contest Has Begun

Gap iPhone AppThey’ve been strangely silent since last year’s contest ended, but now the long wait is finally over. Yesterday marked the official launch of the 2010 Gap Casting Call. The initial entry phase of this year’s contest runs from September 28 through October 24 (last year it was a full 30 days) and for the first time, Gap is also offering folks the option to enter via their new iPhone app (which I haven’t actually tried yet). Thankfully, this year’s contest does not appear to have a partnership with Disney (which was more or less a disaster last year in my opinion and those of many who commented here). Even though Disney is gone, my hopes of things running smoothly right out of the gate were more or less dashed after I visited the non-functioning casting call website half a dozen times today.

To enter your child model of the future (babies, ages 4 and under; kids, ages five to 10) in this year’s contest, download the iPhone app or visit gap.com/castingcall and upload a photo. Here’s the timeline for year’s Gap Casting Call:

Entry Phase: Today through Oct. 24, parents across the country can upload photos of their kid(s) ten and under wearing their favorite pair of jeans at gap.com/castingcall or via the new iPhone app.

The Finalists: Judges will select 20 finalists — 10 for babyGap and 10 for GapKids – who will participate in a Gap photo shoot in San Francisco and get a $500 Gap GiftCard.

Voting Phase: Twenty finalists will be revealed on Dec. 6 and it will be up to America to vote for the winners at gap.com/castingcall or via the iPhone app. Voters can cast their votes once a day everyday for a boy and girl for babyGap and a boy and girl for GapKids.

The Winners: In February 2011, the four winners will be revealed in Gap store windows nationwide. They will also receive a $1,000 Gap GiftCard.

Gap is also bringing back the popular Fan Favorite and Voter Sweepstakes Awards. The child who receives the most votes from Sept. 27, through Nov. 14, will win a $1,000 Gap GiftCard. Voters will also be entered to win a $1,000 Gap GiftCard every time they cast a vote.

Live With Regis and Kelly’s 2010 Beautiful Baby Search

Live With Regis and Kelly 2010 Beautiful Baby Search

The 2009 babyGap & GapKids Casting Call was bigger than ever this year, so I thought I would post some information on the Live With Regis and Kelly’s 2010 Beautiful Baby Search. Though it doesn’t have the cache of a Gap ad, in my opinion, the prizes for the “Live” contest are far superior to that of the Casting Call. The winning baby will receive a “Parenting Early Years” cover shoot and $125,000 to be used toward a college education, four runners up will split $100,000.

Announcing the LIVE! with Regis and Kelly Beautiful Baby Search!

Our annual search for the next Parenting magazine cover model!

One lucky winner will appear on the cover of Parenting Early Years, and LIVE has partnered with Gerber to provide the lucky boy or girl with $125,000 to be used toward a college education!

Five finalists will travel to New York for a professional photo shoot with Parenting during Beautiful Baby Week in March.

The grand prize winner will be selected from the photos taken at the shoot, and LIVE and Gerber® will award an additional $100,000 to be divided amongst the four runners-up, to be used toward a college education. Ten semi-finalists will also receive fabulous prizes from Gerber®.

The contest begins January 5, 2010, and deadline for entries is January 29, 2010. To enter, go to liveregisandkelly.com.

PS Please don’t email me personally about this contest as I am not affiliated with it.
