Sadly, the Glenlivet Links are no longer, but the famous distillery is currently offering free holiday labels at their website. I know, I know, it’s really no substitute for free mini golf and single malt whisky, but it’s the kind of thing my father-in-law used to enjoy.

Tonight (Nov 10) is the 12th Annual WhiskyFest at the Marriot Marquis in Times Square, NYC. The event lasts from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM and will feature “200 of the world’s finest, rarest, and most expensive, single malt and blended Scotch, Irish, bourbon, Tennessee, Japanese, Welsh, Canadian and other whiskies from around the world”. Speaking of fine malts, I just received an email from the good people at The Balvenie and they informed me that they’ve got a new limited edition 17 Year Old Madeira Cask which will be available for tasting at tonight’s event— judging from the picture, it looks quite delicious*.

The new Tim Horton’s locations will occupy 13 former Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants operated by the Riese Organization. The NYTimes explains a little a bit on how this sudden changeover from Munchkins to Timbits all came about:

The conversion comes after a decade of contention between Riese and Dunkin’ Donuts that peaked after The New York Post published a photo of a mouse munching on a doughnut in a shop operated by Riese on 46th Street at Fifth Avenue. The chain sued Riese, and the sides eventually agreed that the relationship would end this week in what Dunkin’ Donuts called a “disenfranchisement.” [NYTimes.com]

The Times article goes on further to point out that unlike the previous Dunkin’ Donuts outlets, “all the Tim Hortons food, including the doughnuts, will be made on the premises”.
