Win Paul Simon’s Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition on CD/DVD

Paul Simon’s Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition on CD/DVD
Paul Simon's Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition CD/DVD
Buy It! | Win It!

Hey folks, Paul Simon‘s Graceland is without a doubt one of the most seminal (and successful) albums of the last 25 years, that’s why I’m pretty excited to be giving away a copy of the Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition on CD/DVD. As you can see from the picture above, the deluxe CD/DVD edition looks pretty sweet and here’s what it includes:

The official Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition CD/DVD set – a two disc music and film set featuring the remastered original album with five bonus tracks and audio narrative “The Story of Graceland” as told by Paul Simon. The DVD features the “Under African Skies” film with extended interviews, three original music videos and “Saturday Night Live” performance of “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes.”

About “Under African Skies”
The story of the making of Graceland, and the controversy created when Paul Simon went to South Africa to record with local artists, is told in “Under African Skies,” the new full-length documentary from two-time Emmy, Peabody Award winner and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger (“Brother’s Keeper,” “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster,” the West Memphis Three/”Paradise Lost” trilogy) and producers@radical.media and A&E IndieFilms.

Featuring interviews with key anti-apartheid activists of the time and such musical legends as Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, David Byrne and Peter Gabriel, “Under African Skies” travels with Paul Simon back to South Africa, 25 years after his first visit, and recounts the making of the record, surveying from the vantage of history the turbulence and controversy surrounding the album’s genesis. His artistic decision to collaborate with African musicians created a new world musical fusion, combining American and African musical idioms while igniting an intense political crossfire, with Paul Simon accused of breaking the UN cultural boycott of South Africa designed to end the Apartheid regime.

If you’d like to win your very own copy of the Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition on CD/DVD go to www.bumpershine.com/graceland. Contest ends on July 3 at 11:59 59 PM ET, 1 entry per person.

Neil Young Appearing at 92Y with Jonathan Demme, Releasing New Concert Film, New Album with Crazy Horse

Neil Young Journeys
Neil Young Journeys

On June 8, 2012, director Jonathan Demme and musician Neil Young will be appearing at the Kaufman Concert Hall at the 92nd Street Y to discuss their latest film collaboration, Journeys. As of this writing, some tickets are still available for the discussion/Q&A, possibly with some music.

Join rock legend Neil Young in conversation with acclaimed director Jonathan Demme (Married to the Mob, Rachel Getting Married) and see an excerpt from the forthcoming film Neil Young Journeys, their third collaboration, in which Demme follows Young on a road trip to his hometown in Ontario for the last nights of his world concert tour.

Journeys will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on June 29, 2012.

In other Neil related news, Neil Young and Crazy Horse will release a new album entitled AMERICANA on June 5, 2012. AMERICANA is the first album from Neil Young & Crazy Horse in nearly nine years.

As you’ll see from the track-listing, AMERICANA is collection of classic, American folk songs. In their day, some of these may have been referred to as “protest songs,” “murder ballads,” or campfire-type songs passed down with universal, relatable tales for everyman.

No tour dates have been announced yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to NY & Crazy Horse play a proper show in NYC around the album release date.

View the track listing from AMERICANA and watch a clip from Journeys after the jump.

Showalter Says ‘Wet Hot American’ Sequel Is “Go”, MIB Disputes It

Bravo Tweet

Last night on Andy Cohen‘s celebrity gabfest, Watch What Happens Live, Michael Showalter mentioned that a Wet Hot American Summer sequel was a “go” with the whole original cast on board. This seemingly off the cuff remark caused a bit of a twitterquake and eventually prompted Michael Ian Black to tweet that, “it probably wasn’t true.” Well, who knows if it’s true, or it isn’t, but judging by last night’s Twitter response, there certainly still is some interest in the franchise. While all the original cast members have all achieved varying degrees success since the movie premiered in 2001, I’d imagine that landing Bradley Cooper for a sequel might be a little challenging.

MIB Tweet

UPDATE: Apparently Showalter told Michael Ian Black today that the sequel is NOT YET in pre-production, but everyone is basically on board to do it when the script is ready. [EW.com]

PS The cast of WHAS recently reunited at SF Sketchfest, you can see some photos from that event over here.
