Today’s Presales: Thanksgiving Edition

Not a lot cookin’ this week as far as presales go. -ed.

Yo La Tengo‘s new album, Fade, comes out on January 15, 2013 via Matador.

Fade is the most direct, personal and cohesive album of Yo La Tengo’s career. Recorded with John McEntire at Soma Studios in Chicago, it recalls the sonic innovation and lush cohesion of career high points like 1997‘s I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One and 2000’s …And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. The album is a tapestry of fine melody and elegant noise, rhythmic shadowplay and shy- eyed orchestral beauty, songfulness and experimentation. [store.matadorrecords.com]

Dan Mangan Playing Webster Hall w/ Blind Pilot, Released New Video for “Post War Blues”

Dan Mangan – “Post War Blues”
Post War Blues

When I last posted about Dan Mangan, he didn’t have an NYC date listed on his calendar, but I knew that being the road warrior that he is, he wouldn’t be able to stay away for very long. Fast forward two weeks and it turns out that Dan will be opening for Blind Pilot at Webster Hall on June 5 (Buy Tickets).

In other non-NYC specific Dan Mangan news, he has just released a brand new video for his song “Post War Blues.” After starring in videos for “Robots,” “Sold,” and “The Indie Queens Are Waiting,” this time Dan cedes the Strangelovian spotlight to esteemed Canadian actor and director Don McKellar.

Almost a year to the date of their memorable Summerstage performance, The Flaming Lips will be playing their classic album, The Soft Bulletin in its entirety at ATP UK at the Alexandra Palace in London.

On the 1st July 2011 The Flaming Lips will perform their seminal classic The Soft Bulletin as part of ATP Concerts Don’t Look Back season. On the album’s release in 1999 it was hailed by critics as ‘The Pet Sounds of the 90s’, receiving adulation from fans and writers alike, topping many year end charts and spawning two classic singles (‘Waiting For A Superman’, ‘Race For The Prize’) and going on to influence countless bands. In 2003 Pitchfork placed the album as the third best album of the 1990s alongside Radiohead’s OK Computer and My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless. [ATPFestival.com]

Check out the Flaming Lips‘ new NSFW video for “See The Leaves” from Embryonic and a bunch of long overdue (and awesome) photos from their July 2010 SummerStage performance after the jump.

Win Tickets To Laurie Anderson’s “Delusion” at BAM (or Buy Discounted Ones)

Laurie Anderson is kicking off this year’s Next Wave Festival at BAM this week with the New York premiere of Delusion, “a multimedia piece exploring memory, identity, and longing”. Commissioned by the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, Delusion includes two signature pieces of music and lyrics from Anderson’s latest album Homeland, which came out in June on Nonesuch Records.

A phantasmagoric world made up of short plays, her latest work is activated by brooding, deeply affecting music redolent with Tibetan temple horns and Arabic strings, performed by Anderson on electronically enhanced violin with supporting virtuoso musicians. A simultaneously contemplative and whimsical epic about longing, identity, and memory, Delusion invokes both humor and terror, conjuring up elves, mysteries, ghost ships, and dead relatives to spin poetic stories and imagery into gold.
