2009 US OPEN (TENNIS) CASTING CALL

Do you want to sing at the 2009 US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York? The United States Tennis Association is looking for talented boys or girls age 12 & under to be among those to audition to sing a musical composition as selected by the USTA at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center prior to a session of the 2009 US Open. Just like they did last year, the NHL is going to have another old fashioned game of shinny on New Year’s Day, but this time it will be at Wrigley Field in Chicago. This year’s NHL Winter Classic will feature the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings in their 701st matchup. The game will be broadcast live on NBC, CBC, RDS and The NHL Network at 1:00 PM ET on January 1, 2009.

The Nike+ Human Race, the world’s biggest one-day running event, will take place on August 31, 2008. In what practically amounts to a crime against humanity, the CBC has walked away from the famous Hockey Night In Canada theme song it used for 40 years in a dispute over royalty payments with the composer. In order to fill the gaping void, the public broadcaster has begun accepting submissions on its website for a replacement anthem to accompany the iconic Saturday night hockey broadcast.

TORONTO (Reuters) – If you can string together a few catchy musical notes, write them down and send them to Canada’s national broadcaster, you could earn C$100,000 ($99,000) and a lifetime of bragging rights.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which recently lost the rights to its hugely popular “Hockey Night in Canada” theme song, said on Thursday it will hold a contest to find a replacement for the jingle.

CBC, which had used the theme to open its top-rated “Hockey Night” broadcasts since 1968, lost the rights to the song about two weeks ago when rival CTV network struck a deal with the song’s author.[Reuters/Yahoo! News]
