Jason Collett, Zeus and Bahamas have announced a North American revue tour featuring all three artists performing together and alone during a night long set of incredible music. The three acts have a long history of collaboration, as intertwined as their musical lineage. Instead of the typical show in which each act plays its own set, Collett, Zeus and Bahamas will all take the stage together, playing songs by all three.

The tour comes on the heels of new albums for Jason Collett (Rat A Tat Tat, March 9) and Zeus (Say Us, February 23), and songs from both will be featured throughout the evening. The Bonfire Ball will kick off in March at Canadian Music Week in Toronto, wrapping in Kingston, April 17. Dates are below, with more to be announced. [Jason Collett's MySpace]

For those of you not familiar with these acts, Zeus is comprised up of Mike O’Brien, Carlin Nicholson and Neil Quin, who up until recently, may have been better known as Jason Collett’s backing band and eventual supporting band. Bahamas is the solo project Afie Jurvanen, who at times has played with the likes of: PasoMino, Great Lake Swimmers, The Stills, Howie Beck, Amy Millan, Jason Collett, Hayden, Zeus and Feist. Last but not least, Jason Collett was a pioneering member of Broken Social Scene, but after four albums on his own, he is now widely known as one of Canada’s top solo artists.

Though the “Bonfire Ball” tour hasn’t announced any US dates as of yet (outside of SXSW), Zeus will be in town for a couple of shows prior to SXSW. On Feb 26 you can catch them at The Knitting Factory w/ Franz Nicolay and Tim Fite (Buy Tickets) and they’ll be at the The Mercury Lounge on Feb 27 w/ The Sadies (Buy Tickets).

In addition to Rat A Tat Tat, Collett is releasing a digital/tour EP entitled To Wit To Woo, featuring six songs recorded during the album sessions. It will be made available digitally (on Mar 9?) and exclusively in physical form on the “Bonfire Ball” tour. According to the PR folks, more Jason Collett/Zeus/Bahamas US tour dates will be announced soon.

Also, in case you missed it, Bahamas debut LP, Pink Strat, was released in July of 2009 on Nevado Records.

Tour dates for all three artists, a Zeus video and more Bahamas Bell House pics after the jump.

Drake’s Take: New Releases 01.26.10

Like my friend on the West Coast said, it was a big, big week for music. So big, in fact, that such notables as the new “Moonface EP” (from Wolf Parade’s Spencer Krug), “Casual Victim Pile” (Gerard Cosloy’s Austin club band compilation), Corrine Bailey Rae’s “The Sea” and Basia Bulat’s “Heart Of My Own” didn’t even register on the Drake’s radar. -ed.

Drake’s Take: New Releases 01.26.10

And on the fourth Tuesday of January, 2010, let it be known that the motherload hath officially dropped. I had this date circled some time ago thanks to new releases from Los Campesinos!, Beach House and Magnetic Fields, but there’s also fine fare from the likes of Four Tet, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Retribution Gospel, Harvey Milk, Jaga Jazzist, Bettie Serveert and cars & trains.

Playlist: New Releases 01.26.10

Los Campesinos – Romance is Boring
Stream / Purchase [mp3]

Los Campesinos- Romance is BoringI don’t know about everyone else, but I think I have my early contender for album of the year. The hot mess that is Romance is Boring has a misnomer of a title. It’s not the slightest bit boring, and yet has an underlying romantic notion throughout. According to the band, RiB is “about death and decay of the human body, sex, lost love, mental breakdown, football [ahem... soccer] and, ultimately, that there probably isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel.” That’s a lot of ideas swirling about, but it all jells, much like the cornucopia of musical ideas that are brought together in this delicious post-punk package.

The lyrics alone could provide a month’s worth of tweets/facebook updates, while the dual guitar action provides a cacophony of sound that moves between deftly between jarring and orgasmic release. “There Are Listed Buildings” and “Straight In At 101″ are brilliant guitar pop, and, well.. the rest is just so great I can’t be bothered to single one out. RiB isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, I realize, but I firmly believe even the musically timid will appreciate this release with patience, as the initial chaos opens itself up nicely with repeat listens. Los Campesinos! are really hitting their stride now, and with their already prolific pace and growth as artists, it’s entirely possible that RiB will be topped this year by their next album. One can dream…

Beach House – Teen Dream
Stream / Purchase [mp3]

Beach House - Teen DreamOn the other side of the coin is Beach House’s third release, Teen Dream. No exhilerating highs or noisy moments here, instead just dreamy comfort in the lush vocals of vocalist Victoria Legrand. With TD, their Sub Pop debut, the Baltimore duo have merely polished their already lush sound by upgrading their recording studio. Some of the intimacy of their first two records (Beach House, Devotion), maybe lost in the move, but they more than make up for it in sweet ear candy.

Skins Series 4

Tonight (Jan 28) is the long awaited premiere of the fourth season (aka series 4) of the UK teen drama Skins. You can check out the e4 site for some episode 1 spoilers, or for those of who are a little more “adventurous”, I’ve heard of these things called torrents. No word yet on when BBC America will start carrying the latest season of Skins, but most likely that won’t happen for a few months. In other news, the MTV produced US version of Skins continues to search for cast members.
