While you may have heard that The Breeders are playing a big gig on Sunday at the McCarren Park Pool with Matt and Kim, and ATJ Alums, Rude Mechanical Orchestra, you might not have heard that they are also playing a (sold out) in-store performance tonight at Manhattan’s Other Music.

Pool Parties Moving to Sanitation Depot Next Year?

Unless the city changes its plans, (which it has been known to do from time to time), this year will be the last for concerts at the McCarren Park Pool. The city is planning to restore the pool at the end of the season— which has JellyNYC and other promoters scrambling to find a new space to hold summer events. The Brooklyn Paper has the scoop:

We’re happy the city is going to fix the McCarren Pool - it’s good for the community,” said concert organizer Dan McGinley. “But it would be a huge shame for North Brooklyn if we lost these shows — there is no one else doing these kind of events.”

McGinley is eyeing a former Sanitation depot at the corner of Kent and West streets, which was zoned to become parkland in 2005 and could be demolished as early as August to make room for Bushwick Inlet Park — a long-promised, 28-acre waterfront park that may someday stretch along the Williamsburg and Greenpoint waterfronts.

“We’re looking at [the site] as a potential location,” said agency spokesman Phil Abramson. “[But] we won’t know for sure until there is an environmental assessment.”

Contamination could be a problem considering the lot’s past. From 1916 through 1980, the riverfront block housed a power plant. From 1980 until until last year, it was home to garbage trucks. [Ben Muessig for the Brooklyn Paper]
