Saturday Night Live kicks off with a bang this year, with Lil Wayne Carter as the musical guest and Olympic champion Michael Phelps as the host. (Hopefully, unlike seasons past, parts of this one will be funny.) Earlier in the year Wayne Carter remarkably sold a million records in a week, last month he played the Virgin Mobile Festival at Pimlico and threw the whole schedule off with his shenanigans.

Andrew Bird Played Virgin Festival, Playing Hiro Ballroom

Andrew Bird played the Virgin Mobile Festival in Baltimore a couple of weeks ago and he’ll be making his way back to NYC on October 6th and 7th for two shows at the Hiro Ballroom. The cool thing about this set of NYC shows is that on at least one of the nights Canada’s Sandro Perri will be opening for Chicago’s most famous whistler. Sandro, as you may recall, was first mentioned here on the Dew Line waaay back in March of 2008. What intrepid readers may also know is that Mr. Perri released an impressive album in 2007 called Tiny Mirrors which managed to make the long list for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize.

Bob Dylan Releasing New “Bootleg” Album, Playing Brooklyn and Virgin Festival

Live Music, Music, New Releases

Bob Dylan - Tell Tale Signs
Bob Dylan - Tell Tale Signs

The folks at Sony/Columbia have dug another Bob Dylan album out of the vaults and this one is called Tell Tale Signs - The Bootleg Series Vol. 8. The “new” record comes out on October 7 and in the mean time Bob will be keeping busy with gigs at Virgin Mobile Festival this weekend and then our very own Prospect Park on August 12th. If all goes well, I should have lots of pictures from Bob’s set at the Virgin Festival, along with a bunch of other goodies starting next week.

A little more on Tell Tale Signs below:

Tell Tale Signs features previously unreleased recordings and alternate versions of tracks from sessions which generated some of Bob Dylan’s most acclaimed and commercially successful albums from the last two decades, including Time Out Of Mind, Love And Theft, Modern Times and Oh Mercy.

Contests/Giveaways, Festivals, Live Music, Music

Virgin Festival 2008

Hey, as you all probably know by now the Virgin Mobile Festival is taking place on August 9-10 in Baltimore, Maryland at the Pimlico Race Course (where Seabiscuit once ran). The weekend is jam packed full of music and will feature performances from such indie favorites as Andrew Bird, Cat Power, Gogol Bordello, Rodrigo y Gabriela, She and Him, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, The Swell Season and Wilco. In addition, for those of who enjoy your rock a little more mainstream shall we say, the fest also has its fair share of big name acts on the bill including Bob Dylan, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters and popular summer festival headliner Jack Johnson. Since it’s such a great looking lineup, I’m really excited to announce that I’m giving away a pair of general admission weekend passes (a $350.00+ value) to the Virgin Mobile Festival to one lucky person who emails me contests@bumpershine.com and tells me who their favorite artist performing at the festival is and why they want to go see them.
