So, I’m about a year late on this post, but I just watched Wedding Crashers last night, (because I wanted to turn my brain off), and I was pretty shocked to hear “Aside” by Winnipeg’s very own The Weakerthans over the closing credits. After it was over, I made my way over to IMDB to look up the cast and it turn out the fetching Rachel McAdams is a fellow canuck, hailing from the college town of London, Ontario. More detective work, (via the director’s commentary), yielded me the additional information that it was she who introduced director David Dobkin to the band, which gave him the idea to use the song over the credits. Ah, I love it when a plan comes together.

The Weakerthans are beginning a European tour in August and will be returning home to play the ‘Peg on September 16, 2006 at The Burton Cummings Center for the Performing Arts. Those folks around here that the band just played a “super-sized” show at Webster Hall, much to many a hipsters chagrin.
