Lots of people are talking about this article from the Washington Post which describes, (at length), violin virtuoso Joshua Bell’s experience busking during the morning rush hour at L’Enfant Plaza Station in DC. He earned $32.17 in 43 minutes and was basically ignored by over a 1000 people. A social psychologist will probably tell you that this isn’t so unusual, when people are in a rush, they don’t stop and smell the roses (or in this case, listen to a world famous violinist playing a 3 million dollar Stradavarius). I wonder what would happen if it was Arcade Fire instead?
