Winnipeg filmmaker Guy Maddin’s “silent movie as theatrical event”, Brand Upon the Brain, made it’s New York premiere last night at the Village East Cinema. The film is based on the director’s childhood and features a live soundtrack performed by an 11-piece orchestra, live sound effects done by in-the-flesh Foley artists, and live narration by a varied cast of arty celebrities, including Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Crispin Glover and Issabella Rossellini. See the full list of narrators here. [Urban Eye]
