Tegan & Sara @ Southpaw

Tegan and Sara @ Southpaw (August 2, 2007)
Tegan and Sara at Southpaw

“Congratulations Southpaw, you’re now officially the shittiest venue in Brooklyn in my book.”

Why the unkind words, you may ask. The achilles heel of Southpaw is, and always has been, the location of the stage, (it’s right next to the door for those who don’t know). When you walk into to club, you end up sandwiched in about a 4 foot area between the stage and the bar. So when the room is crowded, this space essentially becomes a human barricade, nothing gets past it. Not surprisingly, this happened last night, but on a scale like I’ve never seen before. Once the show started, people couldn’t get two feet inside the club and conversely anyone wishing to pee couldn’t get to the stairs outside the main room. Here’s a note to Southpaw on how to get off my shit list: 1) don’t oversell the room, it makes your customers uncomfortable (and pissed off); 2) have security keep the space at the front of the room clear so people can actually come and go as they please; 3) turn on the f@*!kin’ air conditioning!

But enough of my complaining, how were Tegan and Sara? Truth is, I can’t really say. Having been stymied by the human black hole at the front and the unbearable heat of the club, I left after about four songs. I did hear two of my favorites off of So Jealous, Where Does The Good Go? and You Wouldn’t Like Me, but that’s about all I have to report. I got a few more pictures at Flickr, but I’ll probably head to Webster Hall in November so I can catch them play an actual set.

For someone who makes a living going to shows and writing reviews….It would make sense that you are secure in public settings…Like live shows.
I just hope you bought your own ticket…Cause I sure as shit will never put you on any of my lists.

Haha, make a living at this! I wish. I write this blog for me, if anyone else wants to read it, I’m flattered. Unless you own Southpaw or something, I’m not sure why you’re so upset by what I said, it was all true.

As a footnote, I’m not uncomfortable going out in public, I am however, uncomfortable in an oversold club with no AC and bad crowd control.
