Marla Hansen had a CD release party last night at Union Hall and I was impressed with the material off her new record. I went in having not her record before, (and not being the hugest fan of My Brightest Diamond), but I thought the songs she played were quite wonderful. Australia’s Sarah Blasko opened up and played another fine set (go see her at the Living Room folks). Casey Dienel (who plays in Marla’s band) was the other opener and while I thought she played a courageous solo set (on keyboards and ukelele), her music just isn’t for me.
