Chicago based multi-instrumentalist Anni Rossi just played a bunch of shows at SXSW and this week she’s in NYC to play a couple more. On Wednesday (Mar 25), she’ll be at the Mercury Lounge with Camera Obscura and on Friday night (Mar 27) she’ll be at Union Pool with Wild Yaks and Midnight Masses. The Camera Obscura show at the Merc show is long sold out, but I believe tickets are still available for the Union Pool gig. Anni’s in town promoting her new record, Rockwell, which, for my money, is one of the best releases of this young year. If you absolutely can’t make either of these shows in March, Anni will also be back in May on a great triple bill at the Bowery Ballroom that also includes Noah and The Whale and Ferraby Lionheart. The comparisons to Joanna Newsom are inevitable, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s not a bad thing at all.
