Noah and The Whale – The First Days of Spring
The new Noah and The Whale LP entitled First Days of Spring will be released on August 31, 2009 (in the UK at least). In a grand gesture of musical philanthropy, the band has made the title track from their new album available for free download over here. Here’s a little bit more about what they had to say about the “act of giving something away” and the music industry in general from their site:
In any industry rooted in supply and demand, it is a rare privilege to give something away. We are very excited to be able to release something we believe in passionately, recorded how we wanted, and with absolutely no restrictions on access.
The music industry, like other money-making behemoths in ponderous evolution, is an imperfect union of the creative and the business minded. But it would be churlish and short-sighted to say that our current position would be the same, this song even sound the same, without the support we have received. Whatever the processes, it is an undiminishing thrill to cast the crop of hardwork and imagination as far and as wide as we possibly can.
The First Days of Spring is the first and title track from our new album, making it the obvious choice as the introduction to the new material. In entirety and the smallest detail it is Noah and the Whale, If not instantly then resolutely.
And absolutely we can confirm that the album will be released in full on 31st August 2009.

And last, but not least, Noah and The Whale played a gig at the Bowery Ballroom in May with Ferraby Lionheart and Anni Rossi (who is also playing a free show tonight at Pianos with Pearl and the Beard) and I never got a chance to post those pictures until now. Feast your eyes on them below:
