Seaside Summer Concert Series
Brooklyn’s controversial Seaside Summer Concert Series has found a new home, at least for the 2011 season.
Mr. Markowitz announced on Monday that the Seaside Summer Concert Series, held since 1991 at Asser Levy/Seaside Park, on the border of Coney Island and Brighton Beach, would move this year to West 21st Street in Coney Island, a space once used by the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Last summer two synagogues across the street from the stage sued the city over noise violations by the concerts, and the synagogues and other local residents also opposed a planned $64 million amphitheater for the park. Earlier this year the city’s corporation counsel decided that the concerts would not be held at Asser Levy. [NYTimes.com]
No word on the Seaside lineup yet, but the Times article also mentions that the MLK Concert Series, held annually at Wingate Field in East Flatbush, will be staying put.
