As the new female British Invasion continues, Adele has just added a second night at the Highline Ballroom on June 10 and tickets are apparently still available for Duffy’s show on Monday, May 12 at the Apollo.

Adele in The Live Lounge

Apparently, British singing sensation Adele Atkins covered “Last Nite” by The Strokes on BBC Live the other night. For those of you who missed it, you can download that track right over here (mp3). Sure, covers are a cool gimmick and they work sometimes, but after listening to this song, I think Adele should stick to the genre she knows best.

If you recall, Adele recently sold out two shows at Joe’s Pub in NYC and she’ll be returning to the US in May and playing NYC again on June 10, 2008 at the Highline Ballroom (buy tickets).

Neil McCormick, music critic for the Daily Telegraph newspaper, says that not only is Winehouse a musical genius, but she’s changed the landscape of British music and paved the way for a whole new generation of young female singers. [NPR.org]

Who are those young female singers you might ask? Well, according to the above NPR story, they are:

Adele Atkins
Duffy
Laura Marling
Kate Nash
Amy MacDonald

I must admit, Duffy and Amy MacDonald weren’t on my radar before hearing this piece and I don’t see any US dates listed for either of them yet, so keep a lookout I guess. Adele is playing Joe’s Pub on March 18th and both Kate Nash and Laura Marling, as you know, have already been here. (Just as a side note, of all the artists mentioned above, Duffy seems to be the only one who is still channeling the soul singer vibe).

UPDATE: I stand corrected, Duffy is playing the The Hiro Ballroom on March 17, 2008 (tickets are still available).
