“Falling Slowly” from Once

This is surely one reason to stay home and watch the show. Variety has the rundown on all of this year’s Oscar musical performances below.

Performers of the nominated songs will include Amy Adams (“Happy Working Song”), Kristin Chenoweth and Marlon Saunders (“That’s How You Know”) and Jon McLaughlin (“So Close”). These three songs are all from “Enchanted,” with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova will perform their “Falling Slowly” (from “Once”), and Jamia Simone Nash will perform “Raise It Up” with the Impact Repertory Theater of Harlem (from “August Rush,” music and lyrics by Jamal Joseph, Charles Mack and Tevin Thomas). [Variety]

If you haven’t seen Once yet, I highly suggest you check it out. It’s an unconventional film with a touching story and top notch music. The Once Soundtrack would be in my top ten albums of 2007 if such a list were ever compiled. On a related side note, The Swell Season (Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova, Marja Tuhkanen, Bertrand Galen), has a big US tour starting in April which includes a stop at New York’s own Radio City Music Hall on May 19, 2008 (tickets TBA).
