Tim Hortons Comes to NYC

Tim Hortons

Ah, a little slice of home, comes to the Big Apple (admittedly, I grew up on Robin’s Donuts, so Tim’s is not that big of a deal to me, but it’s still kind of cool.) Here’s a list of the new Tim Hortons locations around NYC:

Rockefeller Center Area
1. 761 Seventh Avenue at 50th Street

Macy’s/Penn Station Area
2. Penn Station — Long Island Railroad level
3. 401 Seventh Avenue — in front of Hotel Pennsylvania
4. 152 West 34th Street — across from Macy’s
5. 1286 Broadway — at Herald Square/Avenue of the Americas

Grand Central Area
6. 47 East 42nd Street — North side of 42nd Street between Madison & Vanderbilt

Upper East Side
7. 1276 Lexington Avenue — West side of Lexington between 85th & 86th Streets

Upper West Side
8. 2547 Broadway — West side of Broadway between 95th & 96th Streets

9. 22 Court Street — at Borough Hall
10. 451 Fulton Street — at Smith Street

The new Tim Horton’s locations will occupy 13 former Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants operated by the Riese Organization. The NYTimes explains a little a bit on how this sudden changeover from Munchkins to Timbits all came about:

The conversion comes after a decade of contention between Riese and Dunkin’ Donuts that peaked after The New York Post published a photo of a mouse munching on a doughnut in a shop operated by Riese on 46th Street at Fifth Avenue. The chain sued Riese, and the sides eventually agreed that the relationship would end this week in what Dunkin’ Donuts called a “disenfranchisement.” [NYTimes.com]

The Times article goes on further to point out that unlike the previous Dunkin’ Donuts outlets, “all the Tim Hortons food, including the doughnuts, will be made on the premises”.
