Having already sold out most of the 2010 Monster’s Ball Tour months in advance (including three nights at Madison Square Garden in July), Lady Gaga has started to set her sights on next year. Tickets for the February 21, 2011 Lady Gaga show at MSG go on Citicard presale starting today (May 18) at 10AM, Internet presale starts on May 20, general on sale begins May 22. According to LiveDaily.com, Semi Precious Weapons, who have backed Gaga on all of her 2010 dates, will once again hold down the opening slot during the 2011 schedule.
This summer, Gaga will come to the United States with her arena tour, one of the only pop stars who can fill a venue that large today. She spent a lot to get here—her tour has been losing about $3 million, according to music-industry sources, because she refuses to compromise on any aspect of the stage show. “I spent my entire publishing advance on my first tour,” she told me. “I’ve had grand pianos that are more expensive than, like, a year’s worth of rent.” But profits are on their way soon. “Gaga’s camp knows the exact date this summer that she will turn it around and get way into the black,” says a source. With her 360 deal, Lady Gaga doesn’t own as much of Lady Gaga as one would think. Essentially, this is a joint venture among Iovine, Universal Music CEO Doug Morris, and Sony/ATV publishing head Marty Bandier. It’s a good formula for the business: Hot looks and hot singles are the new monster albums. [NYMag.com]
