Brooklyn Heights resident and former NYU music student Caitlin Pasko (aka Lacrymosa) just released her debut LP Selah earlier this month on The Family Records. If I had to classify the album I might call it “orchestral pop” or maybe “classical pop”, but indie rock devotees shouldn’t be scared off, it’s an enjoyable record and Caitlin is clearly talented. She’s playing the last night of her 3 week residency at The Living Room tonight (Sep 26) at 9PM. In other Family Records news, Bumpershine favorites Pearl and The Beard (whose record God Bless Your Weary Soul Amanda Richardson would have been in my top 10 of 2009 had I made one) are back with a new four track EP and a bunch of upcoming CMJ shows.

Pearl and the Beard at Pianos (06/23/09)

Pearl and the Beard are poised to release their 4-track-strong Black Vessel EP, mostly self-produced but enlisting the extra vision of Jim Altieri and Franz Nicolay (formerly of The Hold Steady) as co-producers on select tracks. Out on their home-base label, Family Records, the Black Vessel EP sees Pearl and the Beard range from the whimsical and boot-stomping to their tunes that come off as poignant swoons. A video for the title track, “Black Vessel” is available at blackvesselep.com.
