John Mulaney – New In Town
Do I keep posting about John Mulaney because I hope one day he will invite me on a personal tour of the Saturday Night Live set? In a word, yes. Do I also keep posting about John Mulaney because he’s one of the funniest stand-ups around today? Without a doubt, yes. If you don’t skip through the ads on The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, you might have noticed that John’s new stand-up special, New In Town, premiered this past Saturday (January 28) on Comedy Central. In case you missed the television premiere, New In Town will hit the stores on CD and DVD on January 31. The CD and DVD will both contain uncensored and extended material. The DVD will contain bonus material including commentary by comedians Anthony Jeselnik and Dan Mintz as they watch the special! The special also features a special intro/outro featuring Amy Schumer and an original song by Reggie Watts. If that wasn’t enough to make you run out and buy your very own copy on Tuesday, you can also enter to win one of two DVD copies of New In Town that I am giving away right here on this site. A wizened comedy veteran at 29 years of age, highlights of the Chicago-born Mulaney’s approximately half a decade in showbiz have included being named one of VARIETY’S 10 COMICS TO WATCH, one of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY’S COMEDIANS ON THE RISE, and most recently one of ROLLING STONE’s COMEDY’S NEW WAVE: EIGHT RISING STARS GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU LAUGHING FOR YEARS. Mulaney is a writer/producer at SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE where he has appeared as a WEEKEND UPDATE correspondent and co-created Stefon with Bill Hader.
NEW IN TOWN is Mulaney’s first one-hour Comedy Central original stand-up special and his second album. Previously, Mulaney had his own half-hour “Comedy Central Presents” special. His first album, THE TOP PART, was released in 2009 by Comedy Central Records and was recently hailed as “criminally overlooked” and ” “a finely-crafted piece of work” by THE HUFFINGTON POST.
