CMJ 2010

CMJ starts today and after picking up my badge at lunch, I’m ready to give it my best college try tonight. Here’s what’s on my radar for this CMJ Tuesday (Oct 19):

Tuesday’s CMJ Picks (by venue) :
Yo La Tengo, DOM, Screaming Females, DJ set by Dam-Funk – Brooklyn Bowl
Rich Aucoin – Ace of Clubs | 9PM
Tall Tall Trees – Alphabet Lounge | 11PM

Devin Therriault – Pete’s Candy Store | 11PM
Franz Nicolay, Das Racist – Pianos | 10:30PM
Dred Scott Trio – Rockwood Music Hall | 12:00AM
Trixie Whitley – Rockwood Stage 2 | 10PM
Ravens and Chimes, Barr Brothers – The Rock Shop
Kisses, MEN – Santos Party House (iamsound)
Surfer Blood, Francis and The Lights, Fake Problems – Studio at Webster Hall (MTV/MTVU)

There’s certainly a lot of ground to cover tonight (like every night) and I’ll most likely find myself at LPR and Brooklyn Bowl for at least for part of the evening. One name that caught my eye in particular tonight was Trixie Whitley, the daughter of deceased American blues guitarist Chris Whitley. Trixie currently performs in Black Dub with Daniel Lanois and Brian Blade, so I’m a little curious as to what she’ll do on her own tonight.

UPDATE: Rockwood doesn’t have Trixie listed on their site for tonight, I wonder if this is an omission or a cancellation.

Trixie’s show last night was cancelled – but she’ll be playing at the same venue on Sat at 5 pm WITH Daniel Lanois as a duo!
