55th Annual Grammy Nominees List

2013 Grammy Nominees
Grammy Nominees

This year’s list of Grammy nominees is a mixed bag for sure, it’s got a lot of the usual suspects of course (Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, and Coldplay) as well as some pleasant surprises (The Black Keys, Frank Ocean, Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Avett Brothers and M83, just to name a few). Upon closer inspection, the list for Album of the Year is actually pretty remarkable considering that four out of the five albums nominated are from “indie” acts (despite what labels they may be on). Another surprise (or slap in the face, depending on which way you look at it) is that Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” one the biggest songs of the year for sure, was NOT nominated for Record of the Year. On the other hand, the other contender for biggest single of the year, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” did make the grade for both Song and Record of the Year. Last but not least, I’m probably not the only who’s going to point out that PSY‘s monstrously popular “Gangham Style” did not receive a single nod. The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will air on Feb 10, 2013 on CBS. (Bob Lefsetz’s letter on how pointless the Grammy’s are coming tomorrow.)
